The Pavlo Virsky National Honoured Academic Dance Ensemble of Ukraine<\/strong> is a national professional artistic ensemble of Ukraine based in Kyiv and one of the most internationally recognized representatives of Ukrainian choreographic culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1940, the ensemble was reorganized into the Song and Dance Ensemble of Ukraine, and in 1951 it was re-established as the State Dance Ensemble of Ukraine. From 1955 until 1975, the ensemble was led by its founder, Pavlo Virsky, who served as its principal artistic director and shaped its artistic identity. After his death, the ensemble was headed by Oleksandr Segal (1975\u20131980)<\/strong>. Since 1980, the ensemble has been led by Myroslav Vantukh, People\u2019s Artist of Ukraine and recipient of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1940, the ensemble was reorganized into the Song and Dance Ensemble of Ukraine, and in 1951 into the State Dance Ensemble of Ukraine. From 1955 to 1975, its founder and permanent artistic director was Pavlo Virsky. After his death, the ensemble was led by Oleksandr Sehal<\/strong> (1975\u20131980), and since 1980 to the present day, the artistic director and general director has been Myroslav Vantukh<\/strong> \u2014People\u2019s Artist of Ukraine and laureate of Ukraine\u2019s Taras Shevchenko National Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ensemble\u2019s repertoire includes traditional and contemporary dances from various regions of Ukraine, as well as large-scale choreographic compositions reflecting historical themes and images of everyday life. Among the most renowned works are Zaporozhians, Chumaks\u2019 Joys, In the Cornfield, New Year\u2019s Snowstorm, Hopak, What the Willow Weeps About, and many others. A defining feature of the ensemble is its creative reinterpretation of folk dance heritage and its integration into a modern stage language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All dance performances are accompanied by the ensemble\u2019s symphony orchestra. For many years, it was conducted by Pavlo Virsky\u2019s close collaborator, composer and People\u2019s Artist of Ukraine Ihor Ivashchenko<\/strong>. From 1994, the orchestra was led by Honoured Artist of Ukraine Vitalii Redko<\/strong>, and since 2001 it has been conducted by composer and Honoured Artist of Ukraine Oleksandr Cheberko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The musical arrangements and original compositions for the ensemble\u2019s productions have been created by leading Ukrainian composers, including Heorhii Zavhorodnyi, Yurii Levytskyi, Anatolii Khelemskyi, Yakiv Lapinskyi, Borys Yarovynskyi, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to its exceptional level of professional excellence, the ensemble has gained wide international recognition. Over the decades, it has toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America. The ensemble has performed in more than 60 countries worldwide, representing Ukrainian culture on major international stages and at prestigious cultural events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the Pavlo Virsky National Dance Ensemble of Ukraine remains a living cultural institution, combining tradition and innovation while preserving and advancing Ukrainian cultural identity in a global context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
